Recent research includes:

The August Riots in England: Understanding the involvement of young people. DMSS worked with the National Centre for Social Research to produce this report, now available on the Cabinet Office website. The first major study to gather the views and experiences of young people, it explores why and how young people did or did not get involved in the riots. Vital reading for anyone who wants to understand the events of Summer 2011, the report was co-authored by Di McNeish & Sara Scott with Gareth Morell & Steven Webster from NatCen.

A Better Way: The impact of commissioning on the voluntary and community sector. This study, carried out for Children England, looks at how current commissioning practice is putting many voluntary organisations under serious funding pressure, and is available here.

A rapid review on the provision of universal parenting programmes for the Department for Education (on behalf of NatCen)

We are experienced qualitative researchers, with particular expertise in researching sensitive issues and 'seldom heard' populations. We have undertaken research on a wide range of issues, including the health needs of ethnic minority children and sexually exploited young people.

DMSS specialises in taking a participatory approach that involves ‘end users’ as well as commissioners. We work collaboratively with our clients to ensure that the research we undertake is useful and timely, as well as rigorous.

Central to this is the provision of regular feedback, to ensure that the research process informs the ongoing development of projects or programmes.

We have considerable experience in research management and commissioning, as well as carrying out research using interviews and focus groups, questionnaires and secondary data analysis.
